Focus

The Journal of Research and Methodology in Education (JRME) focuses on advancing the theory and practice of research methodology in education. The journal provides a scholarly platform for the development, validation, evaluation, comparison, and critical application of research designs, measurement instruments, data-collection procedures, analytical techniques, and research-reporting practices.

JRME prioritizes manuscripts whose principal novelty or contribution is methodological. The journal publishes original methodological research, methodological reviews, and empirical studies that provide clear contributions to improving the rigor, validity, reliability, transparency, and reproducibility of educational research.

 

Scope

The scope of JRME includes, but is not limited to:

• Development, evaluation, and comparison of educational research designs;
• Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research methodologies;
• Development, adaptation, validation, and cross-cultural evaluation of research instruments;
• Educational measurement, assessment methodology, and psychometric analysis;
• Sampling strategies, participant recruitment, and data-collection procedures;
• Quantitative data analysis, qualitative data analysis, statistical modeling, and mixed-methods integration;
• Methodological issues in experimental, quasi-experimental, survey, correlational, longitudinal, case study, ethnographic, and phenomenological research;
• Methodologies for action research, design-based research, and educational program evaluation;
• Methodologies for systematic reviews, scoping reviews, meta-analyses, bibliometric studies, and other forms of evidence synthesis;
• Digital and computational research methods, learning analytics, and the use of artificial intelligence in educational research;
• Research validity, reliability, bias assessment, triangulation, and qualitative reflexivity;
• Research ethics, transparency, replication, reproducibility, open science, and educational research-reporting standards.

 

Educational Contexts

The methodological topics covered by JRME may be developed, evaluated, or applied across different educational levels, settings, and disciplines, including:

• Early childhood, elementary, secondary, vocational, and higher education;
• Religious, non-formal, inclusive, and special education;
• Guidance and counseling;
• Language and literature education;
• Mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences, and economics education;

These educational fields serve as contexts for methodological development and application rather than as independent substantive areas of the journal.

 

Manuscript Suitability

The use of a quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approach alone does not constitute a methodological contribution. Manuscripts that merely report educational outcomes, intervention effects, relationships between variables, or descriptive findings without developing, validating, evaluating, comparing, or critically examining the methodology fall outside the primary focus of JRME.
